40 Years ago today, man first stepped on the moon in what can only be described as the most amazing human achievement ever.
I would do anything to have been able to watch that moment live on TV and experience the excitement felt by people all around the world. It will probably be another 10 years or so until we return to the moon, and for those that didn’t experience it in 1969, i think it will be just as exciting. Mars is another story, but that will just blow our minds when Nasa finally put a man there in 20-30 years time.
NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter is currently orbiting the moon right now, and the orbiter recently took some amazing photos of the actual Apollo landing sites. These photos just blow my mind… You can actually see the scientific instruments and lunar module, and in one photo you can even see the Astronauts footpaths. Everything is just how it was left 40 years ago in pristine condition, its like its still 1969 there.
The photo below is of the Apollo 14 landing site, but if you visit here, you will see all the landing sites.
